{"id":15547,"date":"2026-01-26T19:52:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T19:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newestek.com\/?p=15547"},"modified":"2026-01-26T19:52:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T19:52:12","slug":"russian-hackers-accused-of-attack-on-poland-electricity-grid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newestek.com\/?p=15547","title":{"rendered":"Russian hackers accused of attack on Poland electricity grid"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div id=\"remove_no_follow\">\n<div class=\"grid grid--cols-10@md grid--cols-8@lg article-column\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-10@md col-6@lg col-start-3@lg\">\n<div class=\"article-column__content\">\n<section class=\"wp-block-bigbite-multi-title\">\n<div class=\"container\"><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>On Dec. 29 and 30, the Polish electricity grid was subjected to a cyberattack that nearly knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of households.<\/p>\n<p>Security firm ESET has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welivesecurity.com\/en\/eset-research\/eset-research-sandworm-cyberattack-poland-power-grid-late-2025\/\">since conducted a closer examination<\/a> of the attack and concluded that it was carried out by Sandworm, a group of hackers with strong ties to the Russian military intelligence service GRU.<\/p>\n<p>The attack used Dynowiper, a powerful malware that deletes all data on vulnerable computers.<\/p>\n<p>Sandworm is said to have carried out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csoonline.com\/article\/568103\/russias-sandworm-hacking-group-heralds-new-era-of-cyber-warfare.html\">long series of similar attacks against the Ukrainian power grid<\/a> since 2014, heralding a new era of cyber warfare and ultimately resulting in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csoonline.com\/article\/569995\/us-doj-indictments-might-force-russian-hacker-group-sandworm-to-retool.html\">US DOJ indictments against members of the group<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Sandworm planted a new version of the Industroyer malware to disrupt industrial control systems at a Ukraine energy facility <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csoonline.com\/article\/572535\/ukraine-energy-facility-hit-by-two-waves-of-cyberattacks-by-russia-s-sandworm-group.html\">but was thwarted from doing serious damage<\/a> \u2014 an incident that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csoonline.com\/article\/572567\/after-foiled-sandworm-attack-us-critical-infrastructure-should-stand-guard.html\">heightened risk awareness across the globe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Dec. 29 and 30, the Polish electricity grid was subjected to a cyberattack that nearly knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of households.
