According t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/article\/4104272\/cybersecurity-skills-matter-more-than-headcount-in-an-ai-era-isc2-study.html\">o a recent ISC2 survey<\/a>, 33% of organizations cannot staff their security teams adequately<\/p>\n<p>The result of this shortage is that these professionals are handsomely rewarded \u2014 but no-one appears to have told the UK government.<\/p>\n<p>Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ, the UK equivalent of the US\u2019s National Security Agency, or NSA), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gchq-careers.co.uk\/jobs\/deputy-director-chief-information-security-officer.html\">has just advertised for a chief information security officer<\/a>. The role, which the ad describes as \u201cone of the most influential cyber security leadership roles in the UK,\u201d offers a maximum salary of \u00a3130,000 (about $175,000) \u2014 and none of the stock options or other inducements common in industry.<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates will have \u201cexpertise\u00a0in securing cloud environments and emerging technologies within digital transformation programmes, alongside a strong understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks such as NIST, ISO\u202f27001, GDPR and GovS\u202f007. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM or CCISO are highly desirable,\u201d the ad said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The job ad stresses the importance of the role. \u201cAs CISO, you will\u00a0work with colleagues to set and implement the organisation\u2019s cyber and information security strategy, striking the right balance between capability, acceptable risk and technological progress.
